EdVoice Latte Attack Mailer Targets Mental Health Advocates

Cabaldon Supporters Equate Coffee Cart Job Training Program to Government Waste

Vacaville – In another example of desperate mudslinging, the EdVoice supporters of Christopher Cabaldon have attacked Mariko Yamada over her support of a job training program for people with disabilities.

The ad features a coffee cup and asks, “$91,000 for coffee service?....Would you like foam with that?” It hides the fact that the coffee cart is just part of a new Yolo County training program that will help people dealing with mental illness learn valuable job skills and empower them towards independence.

Woodland - Yolo County Supervisor Mariko Yamada announced today that she would reject any automatic pay raise scheduled for July 1. Yamada turned down a similar salary increase in 2004 when Yolo County faced a tight budget year and instituted an employee furlough to avoid layoffs.

“Today, just as four years ago, I cannot in good conscience accept a pay increase during a fiscal downturn when our county employees are facing potential layoffs and our residents the loss of services,” said Yamada.
