“Go For Broke” – GOTV Weekend Is Here!
Dear Friends:
This past Monday, I was privileged to share Memorial Day speaking honors with Mr. Jim Iso, representing members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 100th Infantry Division, and MIS (Military Intelligence Service) who attended a special recognition service at the Davis Cemetery. In response to your requests, we’ve attached my remarks here.
Seeing these veterans, now in their 80’s and 90’s, as living representations of their motto, “Go For Broke”, will be forever seared in my memory.
Where did this motto come from?
The dice game of “Craps” was very popular among the Hawaiian contingent. Those who played knew that in every dice game, there came a point when the game ended and it was time to risk everything he had – to “Go For Broke” – to go for the win.
In recent days along our campaign trail, we’ve seen the predictable avalanche of glossy mail and last-minute hit pieces. Since our opponent is bankrolled by corporate interests, we’ve even seen a new independent expenditure solely devoted to misleading cable TV ads. We’ve responded factually regarding allegations of pay raises and coffee carts [link to press releases here] and can only guess what’s going to land in our mailboxes next…
Aren’t you tired of these tactics? I know the voters I meet are, and they are responding to our campaign of going direct to the people with our core issues of health and public safety, education, environment and social justice.
I am proud to say that I have now personally walked to over 4,200 households, and with our “ground troops” about to engage in walks from now until Tuesday, June 3, we will achieve the goal set out for me at the beginning of our efforts together fifteen months ago – more than 5,000 households walked by volunteers.
In the spirit of those who served honorably and courageously in the face of impossible odds, I invite you to join me whenever and wherever you can during our “Get-Out-the-Vote” mobilization over the next five days.
This is my “Go For Broke” weekend! Thank you for your support.
