From Start To Finish-Election Day Is Here!

Dear Friends and Family:

Our journey to Election Day began fifteen months ago when a few of you braved a cloudy and bitter cold morning in Fairfield for a 9 a.m. press announcement in front of the Solano County Government Center. We thawed out in time for the second-half of our announcement in front of the Yolo County Superior Court in Woodland, under lunchtime skies that had cleared to make way for sunshine and a larger gallery of friends.

We started this race with $10,000 in the bank and a commitment to the six core values of the social work profession-service, social justice, the dignity and worth of all people, the importance of human relationships, integrity and competence. You've heard me repeat these values frequently throughout our campaign together.

Through hard work, determination, and sheer will, we've been able to achieve the impossible! Thanks to you, we've raised in excess of $300,000 from 800 non-duplicated donors with the most common donations being at the $100.

Since last fall, I have personally walked 4,300 households in Solano and Yolo counties, and we've conducted voter outreach events in every city in the district-yes, all ten of them. We opened our official headquarters this spring in Vacaville, while maintaining an "around-the-kitchen-table" grassroots operation in my hometown of Davis.

Our tenacity has earned us support from a diverse group of business, labor, health, education and public safety leaders along with key current and former elected officials. I am very proud of our core campaign team and humbled by the many volunteers who have performed all manner of tasks large and small to help keep this campaign moving forward. To each one of you, I thank you from the bottom-of-my-heart!

The closing days of this campaign have seen the predictable volley of "scorched-earth" mailers and media buys. I am both saddened and disturbed by the distortions and untruths characteristic of these last minute "hit pieces", and the voters are, too.

For my opponent's cheerleaders at EdVoice to deposit $100,000 in a new, late independent expenditure committee against me shows how desperate they are-and for their claims to be refuted so easily shows our strength!

We end this campaign as we began, with a commitment to the six core values of the social work profession. At this time, the highest value among them for me is integrity. This is the value I've carried all during my walks to the voters-I have met some of the most extraordinary people though this direct voter contact, and I will remember each one of them for the rest of my life.

I will be walking precincts to get-out-the-vote until 8 p.m. on Election Day, and invite you to join us at one or both of our Election Night parties.

I have tremendous respect for the voters and trust in the outcome only they can decide.

Thank you for all your support!
