Mariko's Missive, Vol. 17 - A Campaign Newsletter for the 8th AD
Happy Labor Day-We’re “On” and Running!
Dear Friends:
Hope all of you are well and as excited as I am about the upcoming fall campaign.
First, just to bring you up-to-date--over the past three months, the Yamada for Assembly 2008 campaign took a short break, saw some staff changes, and re-organized to make a unified November 4th Democratic victory our top priority.
In June, we met with many of our supporters from the labor community to express our appreciation for all their “boots-on-the-ground” in the final weeks leading up to the June 3 Primary Election. We could not have won without you!
At the end of July, Campaign Manager Brian Micek moved on to pursue other projects. We thank him for all of his hard work and extra effort in bringing home our primary win. Brian continues to help the overall Democratic campaign effort with his help in organizing the New Democratic Club of West Sacramento, just in time for the General Election.
During August, we focused on developing collaborations with State Senate Candidate Lois Wolk and Solano County Supervisor Candidate Skip Thomson. We also worked with Yolo United, supporting kickoff campaign events in Davis and Woodland, and began working with the Solano County Democratic Party to engage all those interested in supporting Barack Obama and Joe Biden as the next President and Vice President of the United States. We will also be assisting in various state ballot campaigns, most notably No on 4 (Parental Notification) and No on 8 (Marriage Equality). Both of these initiatives attack the core issue of choice in different ways.
Labor Day signals the traditional start for the fall campaign. Don Lowrie, who served as Field Director for the primary, has taken on a new role given the coordination requirements noted above. He is Campaign Director for the Yamada team, and will do double-duty as coordinator in our unified Yamada-Wolk-Thomson headquarters at 187 Butcher Road, Suite C, Vacaville, CA 95687. Very shortly, we will be joined by the Obama-Biden campaign—and, we can hardly wait!
My friends, this is undoubtedly the most important election of our lifetimes. We must pull together in the face of chaos in the international, national, state and local arena. So much is at stake, and we are now just 34 days until Permanent Absentee ballots are scheduled to be mailed, and 64 days until the General Election on Tuesday, November 4. There are also no less than a dozen state ballot measures to be considered.
We have much work to do in a short period of time. I hope I can count on you to stand with me again. I will be working hard all day, every day, to continue fighting on your behalf. Thank you for all of your support and encouragement!
Mariko
