2010 Candidate's Statement
California faces daunting challenges ahead. Once known as the “Golden State”, we now spend more on prisons than schools, businesses are struggling, and vital services have been slashed at a time when people need help more than ever.
Citizens are worried and angry. We must reform how we govern California so we can get our State working again.
As a social worker for over 35 years, I have never shied away from tough problems. As a county supervisor, I learned the value of local government services. As your Assembly representative, I have worked hard to keep your tax dollars local and have opposed State raids.
I am committed to a balanced approach to California’s problems. My priorities include: budget and healthcare reform; support for our veterans; fighting for education; safeguarding farmland; tax incentives for small businesses; public safety; and ensuring that first responders are fully equipped and protected. The Delta also deserves special protection.
Autism and Alzheimer’s diagnoses are on the rise. As our population ages, the housing, transportation, medical and social services for seniors and disabled adults will only grow, including support for caregivers. Integrating services improves programs and saves precious taxpayer dollars.
Leading by example, I will continue to forgo legislative benefits such as per diem, car, and gas allowances. I believe we can restore California to a Golden State again through shared and proportionate sacrifice. I respectfully ask for your vote today so that I may continue to work hard on your behalf. Thank you.
